With job bike and public transport subsidies – UniCredit Bank Austria reduces commuting emissions by 192 tonnes

UniCredit Bank Austria is continuing to promote sustainable mobility among its staff. As the latest internal mobility survey shows, climate-friendly modes of transport are becoming increasingly important within the company. At the same time, the bank has managed to reduce CO₂ emissions from commuting by 8.2 per cent, or 192 tonnes, compared with 2023.

Employees’ mobility habits are also changing in a sustainable way: the proportion of journeys to work made by car has fallen, whilst the use of public transport has continued to rise. Nevertheless, cars still account for the lion’s share of commuting-related emissions.

“The results of our mobility survey show that sustainable mobility is becoming increasingly important to our staff and is already being actively practised. We are particularly pleased with this development, as it contributes directly to reducing our environmental footprint. Through the job bike scheme and the subsidisation of public transport tickets, we are creating concrete incentives to further support the switch to climate-friendly modes of transport. Sustainability doesn’t end at the workplace – it often begins on the journey there”, says Svetlana Pančenko, Management Board Member People & Culture, UniCredit Bank Austria.

To further support this positive trend, UniCredit Bank Austria is focusing on targeted mobility initiatives. Since 2025, the job bike leasing scheme has been available to staff as an attractive benefit. Following a successful pilot phase, the scheme has been rolled out as a permanent initiative and is now available to all eligible staff. To date, 165 job bikes have been leased, underlining the high level of uptake among the workforce. The scheme is complemented by subsidies for public transport tickets – such as the Klimaticket or annual passes – to further facilitate the switch to sustainable modes of transport.

Through its mobility schemes, UniCredit Bank Austria is making an active contribution to reducing emissions and underlining its long-term commitment to environmental and climate protection as part of its ESG strategy.
