Michael Klaffenböck is the new CEO of UniCredit Leasing Austria
Michael Klaffenböck (57) has taken over as CEO of UniCredit Leasing Austria with effect from 1 July 2026. He succeeds Erich Schramek, who is taking his well-deserved retirement following a highly successful career. UniCredit Leasing Austria has been one of the leading full-service leasing providers on the Austrian market for many years. With a clear strategic focus and a strong customer-centric approach, the company has established a solid position as a reliable financing partner for the Austrian economy.
“In Michael Klaffenböck, we have secured one of the most distinguished managers in the financial services sector, specialising in the automotive industry, for this role. He combines decades of experience in banking, leasing, insurance brokerage and partnerships – in Austria, Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and beyond – with strong sales expertise, strategic vision and clear entrepreneurial leadership. He also has a deep understanding of the needs of our leasing customers. At the same time, he embodies a modern, growth-oriented leadership culture and the consistent further development of the business. I am convinced that Michael Klaffenböck, together with our strong leasing team, will continue the successful development of UniCredit Leasing Austria on the Austrian market and further expand its strong position,” says Dieter Hengl, Board Member for Corporates at UniCredit Bank Austria. “I would like to express my sincere thanks to Erich Schramek for his many years of outstanding service to our customers and our bank, and I wish him all the best for this new chapter in his life.”
Michael Klaffenböck began his career at Denzel, where he was responsible for several areas of operation in Austria and Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Following a spell at Raiffeisen Leasing, he moved to Porsche Bank, where he helped drive the company’s international expansion in various roles over many years. Among other things, he was responsible for setting up and managing Porsche Leasing Bulgaria and later, as part of a joint venture with Volkswagen Financial Services, took over the management of VWFS Slovakia and VWFS Maklerska (insurance brokerage). Following further roles, he became CEO of Toyota Kreditbank ZNL Austria (TFSAT) in 2019, where his responsibilities included establishing a strongly sales-oriented captive bank. Michael Klaffenböck studied social and economic sciences at the Leopold Franzens University in Innsbruck, completed a marketing management programme at the Graduate School of Business in Dublin, and holds a PhD from the Vienna University of Economics and Business.
