A successful change: 1 year switch to Mastercard credit cards at UniCredit Bank Austria
- After one year, UniCredit Bank Austria can celebrate a very successful switch to Mastercard credit cards
- Around 250,000 customers are already benefiting from the advantages of the new credit card offering
- Plans are in place to expand the partnership with further innovative solutions
For the past year, UniCredit Bank Austria customers have been benefiting from the successful switch to the Mastercard credit card portfolio. This innovation was a decisive step towards continuously improving the offering and providing customers with services such as Apple Pay or Google Pay. To date, around 250,000 customers have already benefited from the advantages of the new credit cards, which now include a new travel interruption insurance as part of the cover and, from the Mastercard Platinum level upwards, also offer worldwide access to around 1,800 exclusive airport lounges. This has led to a great deal of positive feedback and high customer satisfaction.
“The switch to our new credit card offer was a significant step”, explains Daniela Barco, Board Member for Retail at UniCredit Bank Austria. “We placed great emphasis on ensuring a smooth transition that not only offers our customers a seamless change but also new benefits and greater flexibility when making payments.”
Credit cards an integral part of everyday life for Austrians
A recent survey by the Gallup Institute on behalf of Mastercard shows that credit cards are now part of everyday life for many Austrians. Just under half of Austrians (49 per cent) own a credit card and use it primarily whilst on holiday (71 per cent), for online shopping (62 per cent) and when making larger payments (61 per cent).
Already 36 per cent of respondents in the Gallup survey will be making regular contactless payments via their mobile phones by 2026. UniCredit Bank Austria customers are also already making regular payments via their mobile phones using Apple Pay and Google Pay, demonstrating that mobile payments – even with a credit card – offer a significant convenience factor that simplifies and speeds up the payment process.
Outlook: Focus on innovative payment options
Mastercard and UniCredit Bank Austria plan to continue expanding their collaboration in the future. “We are already working closely together to offer UniCredit Bank Austria customers further innovative payment options in the near future that will make their daily lives easier”, said Michael Brönner, Country Manager at Mastercard Austria.
