  • UniCredit named “Best Bank” in Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, and Croatia by Global Finance in its annual “World’s Best Banks 2026“ awards

UniCredit Bank Austria has been named “Best Bank in Austria“ by Global Finance in its 33rd annual “World’s Best Banks“ awards. UniCredit was also awarded “Best Bank” in Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, and Croatia.

“I am incredibly proud of our teams in Austria and across CEE for earning these prestigious recognitions. What unites us is a shared culture which embraces transformation, invests in people, and leverages technology and AI to create real value for our clients every day. ‘UniCredit Unlimited’ reinforces this mindset. It pushes us to accelerate our growth while rethinking how we operate, collaborate, and innovate across the region,” said Teodora Petkova, Head of UniCredit CEE.

“We are proud of this award as it is a result of our tireless work and efforts to offer our customers in Austria the best possible service. It is a valuable recognition of the excellent performance of our employees and proof that we are a successful and reliable partner for our customers. At the same time, this award is a clear commitment for the future: We are firmly focused on growth and are making targeted investments in our strengths. In 2026, we will significantly expand our team, set new standards in advisory services with a centre of excellence for housing and mortgage financing, further develop and strengthen our offerings in the credit card and payment services business, and continue to drive forward our SME initiative”, emphasizes Ivan Vlaho, CEO of UniCredit Bank Austria.

The recognition highlights UniCredit’s strong financial performance, disciplined asset and liability management, and continued progress in digital innovation and AI. Global Finance's editorial team selects the winners in the various regions and countries that reliably offer the best services in the local and global markets. The winners were selected based on a combination of rigorous quantitative metrics, including asset growth, profitability, geographic reach, strategic initiatives, and product innovation, as well as qualitative assessments from industry experts, analysts, and consultants.

These awards also reinforce the bank’s momentum as it enters a new phase with “UniCredit Unlimited” – the Group’s bold new strategy aimed at accelerating quality top line growth and rethinking the bank’s operating model through technology, AI, and an uncompromising focus on clients and people.
