What our employees tell us

Nadja Pixner on her lateral entry from a sports clinic to a permanent branch employee at Bank Austria.

Ms. Pixner, you are a career changer – what were you able to take away from your previous job in a sports clinic for your area of responsibility at Bank Austria?
First and foremost, the joy of teamwork. You have to show commitment and have the courage to open up to others. And of course, flexibility, interest, commitment and diligence should not be missing.

When did you come to Bank Austria and how did you come to participate in the BestStarter programme?
I started in June 2019 in a branch in Imst in Tyrol. Later, my store manager, Sandra Steiner, signed me up for the BestStarter series.

What did you learn in the BestStarter training and what did you like best?
The seminars at the Kaiserwasser in Vienna were very informative, no matter in which area. From accounts to insurances, cash, securities, basic information, savings business, financing, etc., everything was included. You could also take a lot with you personally - to speak and present freely in front of others, I learned that thanks to the great seminars. I really liked the family atmosphere during the teamwork. Of course, the training was sometimes exhausting, but I was able to learn a lot.

In which area do you currently work and what do you enjoy most?
I work in the cash area as well as in the support in the foyer, I look after insurance, consumer loans and savings transactions of all kinds except securities. I find the processing of inquiries for consumer loans exciting. Here I have the feeling that I can fulfill a customer's wish or at least help in a situation. Thus, it is always a win for both sides.

Is there a special highlight of your career?
One thing I was particularly pleased about: I was able to help an angry customer after an intensive conversation and persuade them to stay with Bank Austria. Another customer even wrote a positive review on Google because she was so satisfied.

Philipp Herrmann on his path from the insurance industry to Bank Austria.

How did you become aware of Bank Austria's BestStart programme?
On my first day at work at Bank Austria, my branch manager at the time in Taborstraße drew my attention to the program. And after a short, very efficient application process, I got my place in the program. I started in January 2019 as a sales and service employee – thanks to the BestStarter program, I was promoted to investment consultant a short time later.

What skills and qualifications do you need to start as a BestStarter?
Open approach to people, ability to work in a team, willingness to work and learn. And you have to enjoy working with customers.

What did you learn in the 12-month program?
I received a profound basic education in the areas of investments and financing. And I was able to make contacts. During my training, I met many new colleagues.

What do you particularly like about your job and what are your highlights?
I am most pleased when I can successfully advise and help a customer. If the customers thank me personally for the help afterwards, it gives me a lot. The BestStart program has given me this quality and enabled me to become a competent and successful consultant.
