Bank Austria first bank in Austria to turn smartphones into ATM cards with its BankCard Mobil

  • A fully-featured ATM card on the SIM card of the smartphone
  • It will be possible to pay in stores and, from 2016, make ATM cash withdrawals with a mobile phone
  • The new Bank Austria MobileBanking app with widgets, card management, QR code scanner, securities management, financial overview, ATM finder and personal bank contact
  • Highest priority placed on security

With its BankCard Mobil, Bank Austria is the first bank in Austria to offer a fully-fledged virtual ATM card for smartphones. BankCard Mobil is a virtual ATM card with a contactless feature that is encrypted and stored on the SIM card of the smartphone. So you can make contactless payments up to EUR 25 with your mobile phone without entering your PIN at NFC-enabled payment terminals in shops – worldwide. Online shopping and in future, contactless ATM withdrawals will also be possible.

In addition to needing an account at Bank Austria, users only need an NFC-enabled Android smartphone version 4.1 or higher, an NFC SIM card, which is available from mobile-phone operators A1, T-Mobile and Drei, and the BankCard Mobil app, which can be downloaded from the Google Play store. The BankCard Mobil can be ordered directly via the Bank Austria MobileBanking app.

"The BankCard Mobil and our new products in our MobileBanking app are another important step on Bank Austria’s way to becoming the leading multi-channel bank in the country. This means that customers can decide when, where and how they want to get in contact with us – and still have access to comprehensive consulting and advice", emphasised Helmut Bernkopf, Member of the Bank Austria Management Board for Commercial Banking, adding: "Through the interplay of BankCard Mobil and the MobileBanking app, the smartphone is a little closer to becoming a fully-fledged bank branch".

New Bank Austria MobileBanking app turns smartphones into finance centres
With version 4.1 of the Bank Austria MobileBanking app, your smartphone is developing into a personal finance centre. It provides information on the most important banking services, an overview of your current account balance, ATMs nearby, the management of bank cards and limits, current information about your securities and the ability to make transfers using QR codes. If further consultation is needed, you can make an appointment with your personal adviser via the app.

Fastest overview of transactions and account balances – the Bank Austria Widget
With its so-called "widgets", the MobileBanking app makes Bank Austria the first bank in Austria to provide users with a quick overview of recent transactions without having to log in. The account balance and recent transactions are displayed at a glance.

Card management
The new card-management feature allows BankCard management directly from your smartphone via the Bank Austria MobileBanking app. So you can change the card limit on the road and without delays, activate or deactivate GeoControl (to use the BankCard outside of Europe), order a replacement card or new PIN and immediately block the card in case of emergency.

Create and scan QR codes
QR codes are increasingly replacing previous forms of payment and are now printed on many bills. By scanning the codes, all transaction information appears on your smartphone, and you need only verify and carry out the transaction via MobileTAN. The MobileBanking app also allows you to create your own QR code, which you can then send via e-mail or share via social media. Recipients scan or receive the QR code directly in their app and post the payment to the creator’s account.

The world of securities at your fingertips
Detailed data on securities plans, securities accounts, orders and sales can be found under the Securities menu in the Bank Austria MobileBanking app. You can also easily organise searches for securities according to asset category or stock exchange, and purchase or sell securities on your smartphone.

All finances at a glance
In the MobileBanking app, users can see account balances, value date balances, available balances, sales developments, as well as a financial statement with building savings, savings accounts, fixed-term deposits and loans. In addition, you can also enter payment instructions for EU and foreign countries as well as carry out scheduled transfers, standing orders and sweep orders

ATM finder
The Bank Austria ATM finder locates the nearest ATM from around 8,700 machines throughout Austria. Quarterly updates ensure the locations are current.

Your direct line to personal consultations
Through the Communication Centre of the Bank Austria MobileBanking app you can receive encrypted customer-service messages or calls directly by telephone. Contracts can be signed directly via the Communication Centre and sent to the Bank. Service numbers and security hotlines can be called directly through the app.

Security is moving forward
With the "Device Management" feature, the app allows you to restrict access to authorised devices. This prevents unauthorised access from external devices. In addition, users must log on again after closing the app, while security certificates are always automatically checked during the connection, and a certain period of inactivity automatically terminates the connection to the server. If a phone call interrupts the banking transaction, you can set it so the process can continue only after entering a self-defined unlock pattern.
