Bank Austria Job News:
Walter Schwarz becomes new Head of Compliance Austria and CEE
From 1 September Walter Schwarz, 46, is Head of Compliance Austria and CEE at Bank Austria, following Dr. Oliver Schütz, who since February has been Head of Banking Resolution at the Financial Market Authority (FMA). Dr. Herbert Pichler has been interim head of Compliance Austria and CEE since February, alongside his core position of Head of Legal & Corporate Affairs.
Born in Carinthia he used to work at a predecessor company of Bank Austria, Creditanstalt, from 1996 to 2000. This was followed by management roles in compliance at the Gutmann Group, latterly spending many years as the head of this area. From mid-2013, Schwarz was General Manager and COO with responsibilities for Legal & Compliance at the Austrian subsidiary of private bank Julius Bär.
Willibald Cernko, CEO of Bank Austria, is convinced that Walter Schwarz is a competent professional for this position: "Walter Schwarz has many years of experience in the field of compliance at reputed competitors. I am sure that we have found the ideal candidate for this demanding position. At the same time I would like to thank Herbert Pichler for his outstanding work in leading this area temporarily until the arrival of Walter Schwarz. Following the departure of Oliver Schütz he ensured continuity in this key area and further strengthened our compliance culture in Austria and CEE countries."
Walter Schwarz is father of two children, studied law at Karl-Franzens University and is a current member of the local council in Tattendorf, Lower Austria since 2010.
