Bank Austria buys UniCredit Leasing Austria

  • Bank Austria integrates Austria’s market leader in leasing business in its Retail & Corporates Division
  • As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bank Austria, UniCredit Leasing will continue to operate as a separate legal entity, with no changes in its management team and management organisation

UniCredit Leasing Austria has been a Bank Austria Group company since 10 December 2014, assigned to the bank’s Retail & Corporates Division. Bank Austria has purchased a majority interest in UniCredit Leasing Austria from UniCredit Leasing SpA. This transaction follows the realignment of leasing business in the entire UniCredit Group. The parties to the transaction have agreed not to disclose details of the purchase price.

With about 280 employees, UniCredit Leasing Austria is the only universal provider of leasing services throughout Austria. Its market share of over 16 per cent in 2013 means that the company continues to be the clear market leader in Austria. In the first nine months of 2014, UniCredit Leasing Austria’s new business amounted to EUR 462 million, an increase of 18 per cent over the previous year. Equipment leasing is the mainstay of the company’s operations, accounting for EUR 247 million of new business, followed by motor vehicles leasing (EUR 133 million) and real estate leasing (EUR 82 million). The company’s total business volume is about EUR 3.5 billion.

Helmut Bernkopf, Bank Austria Management Board member with responsibility for business with retail and corporate customers: "I am pleased that lending and leasing activities are again united under the same financing roof. Starting from now, we can offer our customers a range of integrated products, providing them with the most suitable type of finance to meet their specific needs. We have also integrated leasing operations in our innovative SmartBanking concept. Moreover, our leasing strategy will be in line with Bank Austria’s business model – with a clear differentiation in SmartLeasing, offering improved online and ‘do-it-yourself’ services, and SelectLeasing with a high level of advisory competence."

Karin Schmidt-Mitscher, CEO of UniCredit Leasing Austria, adds, "We want to extend the range of services we offer our customers in the future. Our retail customers can take advantage of motor vehicle insurance on attractive terms and conditions as a product complementing motor vehicle leasing. And online information on various types of leasing arrangements for company cars will be available via Bank Austria Business Banking from the beginning of 2015."
