After the extreme rainfall over the past several days, large parts of Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia are flooded. The Serbian government even declared a state of emergency last Thursday. More than 40 people have died thus far, and tens of thousands have been evacuated. Many people can no longer leave their homes and are stranded without drinking water, food and electricity. In total, more than a million people are affected by the flood disaster, and large parts of the region are still cut off from the outside world. Now there is an urgent need for food packages, mattresses, blankets, hygiene products, nappies and baby food.
According to Caritas President Michael Landau, “The emergency relief effort is already under way. Caritas and its local partner organisations are helping the people by providing drinking water, food and blankets. Now, we ask that Austrians show their solidarity!”
As always in the case of charitable donations, Bank Austria is accepting donation payment slips for Caritas’ disaster relief efforts at the teller window free of charge. Donations can also be made via OnlineB@nking, the MobileB@nking App and the transfer scanners in the self-service zones at Bank Austria’s branches.
