Bank Austria comments on article in the Austrian NEWS magazine
Bank Austria brings charge for misuse of customer data

  • The Austrian NEWS magazine, in its most recent issue, publishes customer data which have obviously unlawfully been obtained by third parties
  • Bank Austria brings a charge against unknown persons with the public prosecutor because the relevant data are subject to banking secrecy and data secrecy
  • Bank Austria firmly rejects allegations published by NEWS

Bank-internal data files which we are unable to identify and which contain confidential customer data have been made available to NEWS, the Austrian magazine, by unknown persons. We take this very seriously and we will therefore immediately bring a charge. The public prosecutor’s office will have to find out how NEWS obtained these data. Apparently the data files also include details of documents relating to criminal proceedings which we initiated against former employees several years ago. We are very interested in this matter being cleared up and we will intensively cooperate with the authorities.
