27th Alpbach Finance Symposium
SmartBanking wins award for the most innovative financial service in 2013

  • SmartBanking selected as the most innovative financial service at the 27th Alpbach Finance Symposium 2013
  • The SmartBanking customer service model offers personal advisory services to retail and corporate customers via video telephony, telephone, SMS and in OnlineBanking

The SmartBanking customer service approach has been voted "the most innovative financial service in 2013" by a clear majority of participants at the 27th Alpbach Finance Symposium. Bank Austria has won this award for the fourth consecutive time.

Helmut Bernkopf, Bank Austria Management Board member with responsibility for retail and corporate customers: "Decision-makers from the business sector – many of them holding positions as CEO, CFO and managing director – who participated in the Alpbach Finance Symposium have selected SmartBanking as the most innovative financial service in 2013. This shows the strong potential of our customer service model also for companies and businesspeople. We have successfully pointed out the advantages of bringing highly qualified bank advisory services directly to the office and the company via video telephony, with the additional possibility of bringing in experts. By providing advisory services via video telephony as part of the SmartBanking approach, the bank creates a win-win situation for all those involved, with advantages in terms of efficiency, costs and convenience. The fact that we have once more won the audience award at the Alpbach Finance Symposium confirms our pioneering role as a leading innovative bank for retail and corporate customers in Austria."

Available around the clock
With SmartBanking, Bank Austria offers highly qualified personal advice on the complete range of banking products – from finance to investments. SmartBanking is very different from the limited services provided by online banks. Every customer can contact her or his own relationship manager and arrange an appointment for an advisory session. Moreover, customers can use Bank Austria's entire branch network. Bank Austria's online banking services and self-service zones enable customers to settle routine banking transactions 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We are integrating the Internet, MobileBanking with innovative apps, advisory services via video telephony and a modernised branch network with upgraded self-service zones into a new service approach.

Extended advisory service hours
As a first step, SmartBanking advisory service hours have been extended to 8 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays, giving customers the opportunity to use such services extensively in their offices or homes. There are plans to further extend service hours to 10 p.m. and offer advisory services also on Saturdays.

Helmut Bernkopf: "Participants at the Alpbach Finance Symposium have shown a distinct appreciation of the advantages offered by our customer service approach: we are the only bank in Austria to offer personal advisory services to retail and corporate customers via video telephony. We deliver next-generation banking to people's offices and homes in the form of full advisory services for banking products and services. We are focusing on personal services and high service quality. It is the customer who decides how, when and where she or he contacts us and uses our services. Blending virtual and stationary branches is our model for the bank of the future. We are thereby offering the best in both worlds: online and in our branches."

The www.smartbanking.at website is available for video telephony tests and gives detailed information on the new customer service approach.
