Bank Austria launches new initiative for customers with a migratory background

  • Bank Austria's branch search function now includes all branches where employees serve customers also in foreign languages
  • Bank Austria offers customer advisory services in 29 foreign languages in over 200 branches
  • A larger number of new folders and advertising material will be available in English, Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian and Turkish
  • Five branches in Vienna (Gellertplatz, Keplerplatz, Quellenplatz, Märzstrasse and Meidlinger Hauptstrasse) specialise in offering advisory services to customers with a Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian and Turkish migratory background

"Bank Austria is part of a European banking group and maintains operations in 19 countries in Central and Eastern Europe. It is therefore quite natural for us to serve customers that come from all over the world and to meet their needs to the best of our ability", says Rainer Hauser, member of the Management Board with responsibility for private customers and SMEs. "For this reason we are always working to improve our services for people in Austria whose mother tongue is not German."

All customers have since recently access to a very special service: Bank Austria's branch search function highlights all branches with employees who provide advisory services in foreign languages. The most common languages besides English are Turkish and Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian. Over 100 employees who have mainly Turkish, Bosnian, Croatian or Serbian migratory background play an active role in meeting the needs of customers with a migratory background and offer them customised services in their mother tongue. While contracts will continue to be drawn up in German, advisory services provided in a foreign language serve as additional information.

The advisory services in a foreign language are backed by new folders and advertising material for private customers in Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian, Turkish and English. Five branches in Vienna at Gellertplatz, Keplerplatz, Quellenplatz, and in Märzstrasse and Meidlinger Hauptstrasse specialise in providing advisory services to customers with a Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian and Turkish migratory background.

Bank Austria Management Board member Rainer Hauser: "With these measures we are underpinning our position as Austria's most customer-oriented service provider and the leading bank for customers from all walks of life. But we are maintaining our strategy of not designating specific branches for use by customers with a migratory background. Nor do we offer any specific products for this customer segment because an analysis of our intensive customer satisfaction surveys does not reveal any need for such products."

In addition to the measures for enhanced advisory services for people with a migratory background, Bank Austria has a separate Regional Office for the International Community, which is headed by Shahrzad Banihashemi: 80 employees serve 32,000 customers from 120 countries, who speak 17 different languages. This spectrum of languages is also covered by employees who can serve their customers in their mother tongue. Bank Austria's Regional Office for the International Community is the leading institution in Austria in this customer segment.
