Erich Hampel succeeds Paolo Fiorentino as chairman of Bank Austria’s Supervisory Board
At its meeting yesterday, the Supervisory Board of Bank Austria unanimously elected Erich Hampel, 60, as its new chairman. Following expiry of the two-year cooling-off period after his chairmanship as CEO of Bank Austria’s Management Board ended, Erich Hampel will succeed Paolo Fiorentino, 55, Deputy CEO and Chief Operating Officer of UniCredit, as planned. Paolo Fiorentino will remain on the Supervisory Board as deputy chairman.
Erich Hampel has been working for Bank Austria and its predecessor banks for fourteen years. After serving as CEO of Creditanstalt from 1997 to 2002 he was appointed to Bank Austria’s Management Board in 2000, and from 2004 to 2009 he was Bank Austria’s CEO. Erich Hampel moreover had responsibility for the CEE Division of UniCredit from 2005 to 2009. Hampel has been deputy chairman of Bank Austria’s Supervisory Board since 1 October 2009. He began his career at Citibank Austria and later joined Österreichische Postsparkasse where he worked for about 20 years, also as Governor and CEO of PSK, before moving to Creditanstalt.
