Bank Austria CFO Carlo Vivaldi to become new Executive Director

  • Carlo Vivaldi, who has been Chief Financial Officer and Management Board member of Bank Austria since 1 October 2007, will become the new Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Yapı Kredi, a joint venture of UniCredit and the Koç Group

Carlo Vivaldi, 45, will become the new Executive Director and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Yapı Kredi in Turkey, subject to the consent of the Turkish supervisory authorities. A resolution to this effect has been passed at today’s meeting of Yapı Kredi’s Supervisory Board. Yapı Kredi is the first privately-owned commercial bank with a nationwide presence in Turkey and the fourth-largest Turkish bank with 862 branches. UniCredit holds a 50 per cent equity interest in Yapı Kredi under a joint venture arrangement with the Koç Group. As communicated last week, Francesco Giordano, 44, will succeed Carlo Vivaldi as Chief Financial Officer at Bank Austria with effect from 1 February 2011.

Bank Austria CEO Willibald Cernko, “As Chief Financial Officer of Bank Austria, Carlo Vivaldi has made a substantial contribution to the fact that we reported profits in each quarter even during the economic crisis and we were the only large bank in Austria which did not need state aid. He has been appointed to the top position at Turkish bank Yapı Kredi, the bank which he left to become Bank Austria’s CFO in 2007, in recognition of his outstanding achievements. Turkey is an important growth market for the entire Group. I would like to thank Carlo Vivaldi, whom I know as a colleague with outstanding qualities, for his excellent work and I wish him every success as Executive Director in Turkey.”

Carlo Vivaldi, who graduated in business administration, started his career with Cassamarca SpA as branch manager in Treviso. In 1999 he joined UniCredit, where he worked in the Group’s Planning & Control Department. Soon afterwards he started his international career as Head of New Europe Planning & Control. In 2002 he was appointed a member of the Board of Directors of UniCredit Romania, and from 2005 he also acted as Chairman of the Audit Committee of UniCredit Romania (until 2006). Carlo Vivaldi was appointed Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of Yapı Kredi in 2003, a position he held until he joined Bank Austria as CFO and member of the bank’s Management Board in October 2007. Since 2007 he also holds Supervisory Board positions in UniCredit Bank Czechia (as Chairman), UniCredit Tiriac Bank in Romania, Zagrebačka Banka in Croatia, ATF Bank in Kazakhstan and UniCredit Global Information Services (UGIS).
