Bank Austria TennisTrophy belongs to the past after 25 years
- New sponsoring contract of Wiener Stadthalle with Erste Bank removes the business basis for the partnership of Bank Austria with the TennisTrophy
- Contract renewal with the tournament no longer an option
- Sports, cultural and social sponsoring an integral part of Bank Austria’s social responsibility
Due to the brand sponsoring of Viennese event venue Wiener Stadthalle with Erste Bank, the annual contract renewal for the partnership with the tennis contest at the Stadthalle is no longer an option for Bank Austria.
“Our partnership with the TennisTrophy in the Stadthalle, which had lasted for decades, is a unique success story of Viennese sports events, and we express our best wishes for the future of the contest,” Bank Austria Chairman of the Management Board Willi Cernko points out, “However, everyone will understand that our sponsoring is also based on economic aspects and that we cannot carry out our contest at a venue that bears the name of our competitor. That would be like FC Barcelona having to play its home games at the Bernabeu stadium in Madrid in the future. Therefore, I hope that sports enthusiasts and tennis fans, in particular, as well as our customers will understand our decision.”
Reliable partner for sports, arts, culture, environment and social affairs
Willi Cernko continues, “In addition to the support of cultural, environmental and social efforts, sports sponsoring is an integral part of our social responsibility. With the sponsoring of the UEFA Champions League, the support of the Donauinselfest festival and partnerships with radio channel Ö1, the Wiener Musikverein music society, Albertina museum, the theatre in Josefstadt and our Bank Austria Kunstforum house of exhibitions as well as support of the SOS Children’s Village and Caritas, we are setting the highest requirements for quality and sustainability in this area.”
