- Inaugurated by Bank Austria Chairman of the Management Board Willibald Cernko and District Councillor Ursula Stenzel, Toni Faber, priest of the Vienna cathedral parish, blessed the traditional building
- 400 guests attended the festive concert of the Acies Quartett in the cathedral
On December 2, Bank Austria Chairman of the Management Board Willibald Cernko inaugurated the new Bank Austria competence centre at Stephansplatz 2 opposite the cathedral.
During his address in front of 400 guests, including District Councillor Ursula Stenzel and Toni Faber, priest of the Vienna cathedral parish, Mr Cernko remembered the historical importance of the building, which had nearly been destroyed in 1945. Finally, the building was restored in its original form as a contribution to restoring the old city centre by the Zentralsparkasse in 1975. Ever since, the building has also been used for events, encounters as well as dialogue of personalities with different cultural, ethnic and ideological backgrounds. The fourth floor will still be available for events after the renovation.
"The new branch will be a flagship for the private banking business of Bank Austria and, furthermore, will be a place for encounters and discussions, according to the tradition of this building," Mr Cernko explained.
For Ursula Stenzel, the re-opening of the building represents an important contribution to the economic value of the Innere Stadt district and the Stephansplatz square. The architectural and art-historical values of the marvellously renovated building are revealed, and therefore, the building is more than just a flagship store of Bank Austria. "Prestigious for the history and culture of the Innere Stadt district and, at the same time, prestigious for its economic value," District Councillor Ursula Stenzel pointed out.
Afterwards, Toni Faber blessed the building and invited guests to enjoy the festive concert of the Acies Quartett in the cathedral. The building is one of the most highly-frequented branches of Bank Austria in Vienna, where customers will be mainly offered financial and investment counselling in the future. Branch service, however, has been relocated to the nearby branch at Stephansplatz 7. Furthermore, the Stephansplatz 2 branch will be responsible for customers of the Am Hof branch in the future.
"At the branch, the whole team are focusing all their efforts on consulting tailored to the needs of our customers. Thanks to this comprehensive service, we expect to increase customer satisfaction and are delighted to be able to welcome customers at this competence centre again after about one year of construction work," Mr Cernko said.
