Street promotions draw attention to the rapidly approaching sporting event of the year

The UEFA EURO 2008TM is approaching quickly: In just over five weeks the biggest sporting event Austria has ever witnessed will be upon us. An intense marketing phase is now beginning for Bank Austria, a member of UniCredit Group and one of four national supporters of the UEFA EURO 2008TM. The bank has come up with something special for Vienna in addition to the many advertising measures and the spectacular UniCredit Group Tower that will be erected on Heldenplatz. Over the next few weeks street promotions and poster installations in public places will draw attention to the upcoming major event and define the cityscape.

Residents of the city will be pepped up for the event in a friendly and unique way in particularly busy places in the inner districts of the city such as the Ring, the Gürtel, the waterfront, the Wienzeile, Donaustraße and Währingerstraße and around Ernst Happel Stadium on Praterstraße and Lassallestraße. "The goal of the sensational activities is to bring football into the city. We want to get the whole city excited about this high profile event. Therefore, we have intentionally come with ideas that will take place in public places and get pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists involved in the biggest sport topic of the year," explains Robert Zadrazil, COO of Bank Austria.

The Bank Austria Jersey Exchange

Promoters will ask passersby on the street if they want to exchange shirts – just like in an actual football match. If the pedestrians agree to exchange shirts, the trade will be made on the spot. The shirts that are collected in the course of the promotion will be donated to charity. There will also be a contest in connection with this promotion in which participants can win tickets to visit the UniCredit Group Tower.

A team of five people in red and white football uniforms will form a defensive wall during red lights at intersections in the city. Bank Austria's motto, "Wir sind mit Leidenschaft dabei", will be printed on the uniforms.

The Biggest Sporting Event in Austria's History

With the UEFA EURO 2008TM Austria will host the world's third biggest sporting event. Over one million people are expected to visit the stadiums for the games between 7 and 29 June; some 370,000 spectators — more than a third of all visitors — are expected at Vienna's Ernst Happel Stadium. Organisers are anticipating 100,000 visitors a day at the largest public viewing zone, the fan mile between Rathausplatz and Heldenplatz in Vienna's city centre. The fan mile can accommodate up to 70,000 people at once. On the nineteen game days some 4,000 additional VIP guests are expected to visit the 16.5 metre UniCredit Group Tower that will be erected around the statue of Archduke Karl on Heldenplatz. Around seven billion viewers worldwide will follow the major sporting event on television. The sponsoring and marketing activities are extremely important for Bank Austria — after all, nine of the twenty-three UniCredit countries are participating in the tournament.
