Bank Austria appoints Stephan Winkelmeier as its new Chief Risk Officer
At the beginning of November 2008, Stephan Winkelmeier, 40, will join Bank Austria’s Management Board as the new Chief Risk Officer (CRO). In his new position, Mr Winkelmeier will be responsible for all of Bank Austria’s credit risk management activities in Austria and CEE. His duties will range from the active development of risk guidelines to risk monitoring and controlling as well as strategic risk management and restructuring activities. Mr Winkelmeier will succeed CRO Thomas Gross, who will be leaving UniCredit Group of his own accord. The appointment of Mr Winkelmeier will take effect subject to the adoption of the relevant Board resolutions and subject to approval by the Financial Market Authority.
Mr Winkelmeier is a qualified banker by training and holds a degree in business studies. He was born in Germany and began his career in 1991 at Bayerische Vereinsbank, a predecessor institution of HVB and now part of UniCredit Group. During his career, he has held various management positions, most recently as Head of Recovery Management at HVB. Mr Winkelmeier is married and has two daughters.
