Bank Austria Is "Bank of the Year in Austria"
- UniCredit Group also wins in Poland and Bosnia-Herzegovina
The renowned UK financial magazine "The Banker" has selected Bank Austria as "Bank of the Year in Austria". Additionally, the subsidiaries of UniCredit Group in Poland and Bosnia-Herzegovina were also successful. The reasons given by "The Banker" for extending the award to Bank Austria, besides the improved return on equity and profitability, were the turnaround achieved in retail customer business and the gains in the number of corporate customers. Also, two new and future-oriented service models were implemented for international companies in the shape of Global Account Management and Cross Border Business Management.
"My thanks go in particular to all our staff and all our clients, without whose commitment and trust this success would never have been possible. In difficult market conditions such as these, this award serves to confirm our broadly diversified and healthy business model, which is enabling us to steer through the crisis. Moreover, this award acts as an incentive for activities going forward, for instance our stimulus package for Austrian small and medium-sized businesses, which is proof that even in difficult economic times we are still there for our clients", says Erich Hampel, CEO of Bank Austria.
This year Bank Austria has already been nominated "Best Bank in Austria" by Global Finance magazine, and in 2007 it was bestowed the title of "Bank of the Year in CEE" by "The Banker". Euromoney also deemed Bank Austria the "Best Bank in Austria" last year.
Total assets at Bank Austria in the third quarter of 2008 amounted to EUR 229.2 billion. Net earnings totalled approximately EUR 1.6 billion, despite the ongoing financial crisis. Bank Austria employs around 11,200 people in Austria, spread throughout the roughly 380 branches in the domestic network.
Overall, "The Banker" gave awards to financial institutions in 148 countries and seven regions around the world. Approximately 740 banks were tested by the editorial team at the magazine by means of a detailed survey. The review focused not only on the latest results of the banks and their growth rates but also technological progress, acquisitions and strategic developments. The "Bank of the Year" awards were conferred for the ninth time this year.
