Journalism Prize „Writing for CEE”: Final Submission Date on 31 July 2006

For the third time, BA-CA and APA are awarding the 5,000 euro prize
Submission for published print or electronic media contributions ends on 31 July

For the third time, Bank Austria Creditanstalt (BA-CA), a member of the UniCredit Group, in collaboration with APA - Austria Presse Agentur is awarding the prestigious journalism prize “Writing for CEE”. Until 31 July 2006, journalists are invited to apply with their articles for the competition. The winner of the award will gain a prize money of 5,000 euros.

Awarded for the first time in 2004, the goal of the prize is to promote and support the European integration process. Articles dealing with Europe and EU, moreover with efforts to overcome barriers and encourage cultural diversity will be distinguished.

In 2005, Bulgarian journalist Diana Ivanova was awarded the “Writing for CEE” prize. In her article, she captured the complicated mood after the changes in Europe. In 2004, foreign policy head of the Prague newspaper “Lidove Noviny”, Lubos Palata, was awarded. In addition, German journalist Stefan Jacobs received an honorable mention.

Until 31 July 2006, journalists have the possibility to hand in their contributions which were published in the period from 1 August 2005 to 31 July 2006. Transcripts from radio, TV or online contributions also can be submitted. In November 2006, the winner will be announced at a gala event in Vienna.

In September 2006, the international jury will meet in Vienna. The Jury members include: Jury Chairman and Head of APA foreign policy, Ambros Kindel, former adviser of Czech President Vaclav Havel, Jiří Pehe, Slovakian communications scientist Samuel Brečka, Slovenian writer Jože Hudeček, Hungarian TV journalist Júlia Váradi, Vice-Editor in Chief of the Polish daily newspaper “Rzeczpospolita” Pawel Lisicki, and the international spokesperson of BA-CA, Ildiko Füredi-Kolarik. 

For submission an article in the original language, a translation into English as well as the author’s curriculum vitae is required.
