Bank Austria Creditanstalt is "Bank of the Year" in Central and Eastern Europe

  • Bank Austria Creditanstalt receives two awards from "The Banker"
  • Leading position in Central and Eastern Europe confirmed

As in the previous year, the British financial magazine "The Banker" has again named
Bank Austria Creditanstalt "Bank of the Year in Central and Eastern Europe". The award was handed over at "The Bank of the Year Awards 2003" held in London yesterday evening.  Additionally, the BA-CA subsidiary Biochim was named “Bank of the Year in Bulgaria”. Friedrich Kadrnoska, Deputy Chairman of the Managing Board of Bank Austria Creditanstalt, who is responsible for operations in Central and Eastern Europe: "This award is a visible recognition of our achievements in Central and Eastern Europe. It confirms that we are moving in the right direction. We will continue to pursue this course and further expand in the region." Bank Austria Creditanstalt is responsible for the markets in Central and Eastern Europe within HVB Group.

The jury selecting the award winners included CEOs and managing directors of British companies such as Cadbury's Schweppes, Marsh, St Mawgan & Co, as well as several editors of "The Banker" headed by Stephen Timewell.

For the first time in the history of the awards granted by the international magazines "The Banker", "Global Finance" and "Euromoney", one bank has received all regional awards for Central and Eastern Europe in a single year. In July, "Euromoney" named Bank Austria Creditanstalt "Best Bank in CEE", in May the bank had received the same award from the US magazine "Global Finance".

"The Banker", a monthly magazine of the Financial Times Group, is headquartered in London and specialises in banking coverage. "The Banker's" worldwide readership of some 25,000 includes primarily top managers and financial experts. The banking community sees "The Banker" as a major source of information on all aspects of banking. The magazine's rankings are widely recognised as benchmarks in the international banking industry.

Bank Austria Creditanstalt is the leading network bank in Central and Eastern Europe, with 18,000 employees serving more than 3.5 million customers in 11 countries. The bank is consistently expanding its CEE network: in March 2003, Bank Austria Creditanstalt opened a representative office in Macedonia, and in June the bank signed the agreement to purchase Central Profit banka, the third-largest bank in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
