Check the correct Internet address https://online.bankaustria.at. Take care that your computer is connected with Bank Austria, not with a third party.
Check if the login page is encrypted (https://). It is only on the login page that you need to enter your access details. The login page also contains up-to-date information on security. Please note that you are NEVER required to enter a TAN when logging into OnlineBanking.
Use safe passwords. Never use a standard password for OnlineBanking.
Use the mobileTAN system. For each signature the system will generate a transaction number (TAN) and send it via SMS to the mobile phone number specified by you.
Never let another person know the PIN and TAN. The best security systems are useless if you let third parties know your secret PIN or your TANs. Accessing your account details and executing transactions is only possible by using these codes. Should your PIN or your TANs become known to another person, you can have them blocked immediately by contacting Bank Austria’s OnlineBanking hotline. You can thereby prevent misuse of your PIN and TANs by third parties.
Please be careful when using public WLANs to access OnlineBanking: always check the certificate.
PC and laptop
Use an Internet firewall. It will protect your computer against hackers, viruses and worms trying to gain access to your computer via the Internet.
Use up-to-date browser versions. Old versions of browsers may have security gaps. Updates can often close known security gaps.
Keep your operating system up to date (security updates). Updates will protect your computer against viruses, worms and other potential threats. High-priority updates are therefore important for the security and reliability of your computer.
Use up-to-date antivirus software. It is not enough simply to install an anti-virus program. You also need to keep your anti-virus software up to date.
Smartphone and tablets
Use the display lock of your mobile phone or tablet. Replace the preset PIN of the provider with a code selected by you.
Install the MobileBanking app available from official stores (e.g. Google Play Store). You can find Bank Austria’s apps (MobileBanking and others) at the official stores of smartphone and tablet manufacturers. Do not install apps via download links or from “third-party stores”. This is the only way to ensure that you get the original, unaltered version of the Bank Austria apps.
Android: avoid buying apps from sources outside the official Google App Store (“Google Play”). Android also allows apps from outside the official Google App Store. Criminal app programmers take advantage of this.
When buying an app, give your consent only to those authorisations which you think are reasonable and necessary. Malicious Android apps initially often request authorisation to access various data on your smartphone.
